Clark was Formula One World Champion in 1963 and 1965. He won 25 Grand Prix races in total, breaking the record of 24 held by the Argentinian, Juan Fangio. He was born into a farming family and later became a farmer at Edington Mains in Berwickshire. Clark became the Scottish National Speed Champion in 1958 and 1959. He joined Lotus in 1960 as a Formula One driver. By 1963, he had won seven Grand Prix races. Clark died in a crash on the Hockenheim circuit in Germany during practice for a Formula Two race in 1968.
