George Kerr

 George Kerr

(b.1937)
Judo

Inducted in 2003

George Kerr is one of only two people in the United Kingdom who hold a ninth Dan in judo. (The highest Dan, the tenth, is held by only a few people, most of them in Japan.) A former British and European champion, he is also the only coach in Britain to have trained a double Olympic champion, the Austrian Peter Seisenbacher. Add to that the positions of Olympic referee and former chairman of British Judo and he is without doubt worthy of the nickname, 'Mr. Judo'.

  • Gold medal, European Championship, 1957
  • Silver medal, European Championship, 1962, 1963, 1967
  • Bronze medal, European Championship, 1964, 1966
  • Winner, British Open, 1966, 1968
