Golf
Inducted in 2002
Armour was blinded during the First World War (1914 - 1918) but regained sight in his right eye and became a champion golfer. Armour won the French Amateur tournament in 1920, moved to the US and turned professional in 1925. His score of 273 to win the Western Open in 1929 was the lowest score recorded in championship play up to that time. In 1927 he won the US Open and followed this with many victories, including The Open in 1931. The 'Silver Scot' retired from playing in 1935 but carried on teaching the game. With Herb Graffis he wrote the best seller, 'How to play your best golf all the time.'
