It was the 50th Anniversary of the TT and the year in which the eight lap 1957 Golden Jubilee Senior race was to prove historic in more ways than one. Today, with the lap record standing at some 125mph, doing a 100mph lap would not generate a second thought. In 1957, doing the 'ton' was compared to the four minute mile, or breaking the sound barrier! The excitement generated when hard-riding Scotsman Bob McIntyre, on his 500cc four cylinder Gilera, recorded a speed of 101.03 mph was immense. He won the Golden Jubilee Junior Race that year too and also won the 1959 Formula 1500cc race on a Norton.
